personal growth by personal project

exploring styles here a bit
it may not be evident as I didn't veer too far from any usual paths
but it was fun to work on another Balto image!
hmm...A, B, C or D?

  1. D would have been my choice too, makes him look that much tougher and stubborn :)
    *Thumbs up*

  2. I think they are all great but, for some reason I like D just a tiny bit better than the rest.

  3. definitely B
I mean yeah D looks great too, but everybody draws chins like that.

I'd go for B... nice drawing btw :D

  4. Haha they're all so similar. I'd say C, but A's good too. The style looks sick overall.

  5. I really think D works best. gives a nice sweep from chin to chest.

  6. Lady T: haha ya good point...I'm actually thinking they could all work for different expressions...afterall-they aren't that different are they..typical overthinkatrons by the creator :P

Sean Jacobs:seems to be the popular vote! (also see 1st reply above)

John Patrick Deza: first one to pick B! (i've asked friends and twitter also ;) also see 1st comment above!

Adam Temple: sweet thanks for the vote-and glad you like it man! thinkin of using all choices for diff expressions...(see 1st reply above :)

  7. John 'Roc' Upchurch: seems to be the people's choice-I'm liking that sweeping line also--good eye man :)

  8. I'm down with B. D's nice compositionally but if you actually tried to DO that with your lower jaw you'd hurt yourself.

Side note: I'm always amused by the presence of X shaped scars on characters. I get that it's supposed to make them look like a badass but what it really says to me is "I got hit alot... and in the same places too!"

  9. CapnG: thanks for the input! lol @ your relentless logical side! This is a completely unrealistic character(lack of nose for one thing ;) yet the Lyon's brain persists hehe...I luv it
    thanks Matty!

  10. CapnG: oh and the scars-ya you could look at it that way--or, he has no armour-so the scars are a symbol of 'takes a licking and keeps on kicking' type deal...(also-they're mostly on his back, suggesting surprise attacks from behind? ...)
I added them mostly as an homage to Capcom though =]

  11. D is my favourite, its the most pushed out of the 4, and has the simpliest shape )

  13. B would be my vote. It adds just a little more character to the face. D is good, but feels too standard.

  14. Geardrafter: Thanks for the input! I love drawing this character and getting feedback from everyone is awesome.
    cheers!

  15. lol, its been a while. Sorry for being so scarce around here. But I have to go with the majority and say D as well. The pointy jaw just has more style to it than the other jaws.

  16. It would be B or D for me. B because the semi rounded look (even tho its very straight) give a bit of a sensitive side to a not so sensitive looking man. D just because I would probably be an awesome fit for his character. And most the time I see big, buff men drawn, this jaw type expresses them quite well.
